To house the city's surging case numbers, Shanghai now has eight backup designated hospitals and makeshift central quarantine sites, with another two quarantine sites still under construction. The Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center has a total of 6,000 beds, managed by a 246-member medical team from Renji Hospital.
