A magnitude-7.2 earthquake occurred off Tadine, New Caledonia at a depth of 10 kilometers on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

New Caledonia is a French overseas territory in the Pacific. 

The U.S. tsunami warning system issued a tsunami alert for the southeast of Loyalty Islands after the quake and withdrew it a few minutes later.
