China, Uzbekistan agree to deepen cooperation in trade, new energy

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade, Sardor Umurzakov on Thursday in Tunxi in east China's Anhui Province.

China-Uzbekistan cooperation in various fields has reached an unprecedented high level of mutual trust and support since the establishment of diplomatic ties 30 years ago, Wang said.

Noting that China is ready to work with Uzbekistan to strengthen the docking of the Belt and Road Initiative with the plan to build a new Uzbekistan, he called for expanding economic, trade and investment, and new energy cooperation.

On the Afghan issue, he said that China welcomes Uzbekistan to host the fourth Foreign Ministers' Meeting among the Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan.

Umurzakov said that Uzbekistan is willing to deepen cooperation with China in various areas and looks forward to learning from China's experience in governance, especially poverty alleviation.

The two sides agreed to strengthen connectivity cooperation and deepen cooperation in fighting COVID-19 and in medical and health care.

The two sides also agreed to support Kazakhstan in hosting the third China + Central Asia (C+C5) foreign ministers meeting.
