China, Myanmar to deepen exchanges, cooperation on all fronts

Pointing out the traditional friendship between China and Myanmar, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday said China and Myanmar have decided to deepen exchanges and cooperation on all fronts.

Wang made the remarks when meeting with visiting Myanmar Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin in Tunxi, Anhui Province. The two officials met on the sidelines of the third foreign ministers' meeting of the neighboring countries of Afghanistan.

China has put its diplomatic relationship with Myanmar in an important position, Wang said, noting that China will support Myanmar in preserving its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

China will also support Myanmar in exploring a development path that suits its basic conditions, Wang added.

The Chinese diplomat called on strengthening bilateral ties in mutual political trust, win-win cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and mutual learning, while urging the acceleration of the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC).

China will also continue to support Myanmar with COVID-19 necessities per their needs, Wang added.

For his part, the Myanmar diplomat first congratulated China for successfully holding the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and China's major political sessions "the Two Sessions."

Being in China for the first time, he said the visit showed the special bond between Myanmar and China.

Myanmar stays committed to the one-China policy, the Myanmar official said, stressing Myanmar's support to China in issues concerning China's core interests. 

He vowed to expand trade with China, and push for the development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
