China's Taiwan region confirmed the first positive case of the new Omicron hybrid XE, local health authorities said at a news conference on Saturday.
The case landed in Taiwan from the Czech Republic on March 18. An official said the infected case was a Taiwan resident who showed no symptoms.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has informed that the COVID hybrid Omicron XE is a mutant hybrid of the two virus versions - Omicron variant BA.1 and BA.2.
The WHO stated in a report that "the XE recombinant was first detected in the United Kingdom on January 19, and over 600 sequences have been reported and confirmed since."
