UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths was received by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, according to the TASS news agency, on Monday.
The two officials discussed humanitarian situations in Syria, Afghanistan and Yemen, as well as Ukraine during a meeting.
Another report from TASS said the UN official invited Lavrov to discuss humanitarian pauses in certain regions of Ukraine.
"The Secretary-General (of the UN) wanted me to discuss with you, with your authorities, the possibility of humanitarian pauses in Ukraine ... I have certain ideas about this ... I believe that there are possibilities for establishing humanitarian pauses in certain areas of the country, based on geography, for example, north of the capital Kyiv, Chernihiv, Kherson and so on," he was quoted as saying.
Earlier on Monday, the Kremlin said there's no plan for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Griffiths.
Griffiths is scheduled to travel to Kyiv after visiting Moscow.
