Lawmaker quits, threatening PM Bennett's hold on parliament
00:39

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has lost his parliamentary majority after a lawmaker from his nationalist party quit. The departure of Idit Silman has left Bennett's coalition with 60 seats, the same number as the opposition. This raises the possibility of new parliamentary elections less than a year after his government took office. Israeli parliament is in recess, sparing Bennett the possibility of a no-confidence motion. For this to succeed, such a vote requires the support of 61 lawmakers.
