A Yangtze sturgeon, species under first-class state protection in China, was found trapped and immediately rescued by a patrol team on April 4. The stranded fish was spotted during a night patrol at the intersection of the Yujiang and the Yangtze rivers. It got stuck in a gabion basket designed to reinforce a dam.
The rescued sturgeon measures 1.4 meters long and weighs 10.5 kilograms, with no obvious external injury. The chip implanted in its body indicates that it is an adult Yangtze sturgeon that had been artificially bred and released in Yibin. After confirming its safety, the team released it back into the river.
