Public order is gradually returning to normal in Sri Lanka as protests against energy shortage have almost petered out. The government had experienced protests for days for being urged to take measures immediately or to resign. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa revoked the state of emergency on April 5. At the Independence Square, which was a major gathering place of protesters in the country's largest city Colombo, there were only about 200 protesters on Wednesday, and no protests were seen in other parts of the city.
