The Kremlin asserted on Monday that Russia has the necessary resources to pay its debts, so there is no objective reason for a default.

"There can only be a technical, man-made default," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday, Russian Interfax News Agency reported, adding that "there are no objective reasons for such a default. Russia has everything it needs to fulfill all its obligations."

When asked about Sweden and Finland potentially joining NATO, Peskov said, "this is not an alliance that ensures peace and stability, and further expansion of the alliance, of course, will not bring additional security to the European continent."

He also informed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer will discuss the situation in Ukraine in a closed format on Monday in Moscow.
