China's central bank rolled out the digital yuan in 11 additional cities at the start of April. Guangzhou is among the latest to join the pilot scheme, with major department stores and supermarkets offering discounts to promote the digital yuan. It's also being used on public transport, in hotels and at certain scenic spots. Residents can download the e-CNY wallet from an app store and move money from one of the commercial banks or mobile payment platforms authorized to distribute the digital currency. Analysts expect Guangdong to explore further scenarios in future trials, including cross-border transactions.
