The "special military operation" in Ukraine is going as planned, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters after a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.

Putin described the events in Ukraine as a “tragedy,” saying Russia had “no choice.”

Ukraine had deviated from agreements achieved at talks in Istanbul, Putin said, adding that talks are now in dead-end.
