A lady surnamed Gao from Shenyang gave birth safely while hospitalized with COVID-19. She was in the third trimester when she found out she had COVID-19. During isolation, Gao developed symptoms such as fever, hypoglycemia and excessive fetal movement. After consulting experts, the medical team in Shenyang Number 6 People's Hospital performed a cesarean section for her.

Studies have shown an increased risk of developing severe COVID-19 if pregnant women are infected, compared with non-pregnant women of similar age. COVID-19 during pregnancy has also been associated with an increased likelihood of preterm birth, according to the WHO.
