Russia has intensified its campaign to take the city of Mariupol, as part of a huge offensive across eastern Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said peace talks hit a "dead-end" after Ukraine made what he called false claims of war crimes. This is the first time Putin has addressed the conflict in public since Russian forces retreated from northern Ukraine.
