The death toll from Tropical Storm Megi has risen to 138 people in the Philippines. Megi swept through central parts of the country this week, triggering floods and massive landslides. The tropical storm forced tens of thousands of people into evacuation centers. Authorities have pledged to keep searching for over 100 people still missing. The central province of Leyte was the hardest hit, accounting for the majority of the casualties. Megi was the first cyclone to hit the Philippines in 2022, with the archipelago averaging around 20 tropical storms every year.
