Japan's nuclear regulator said it has largely approved a plan to discharge treated waste water from the Fukushima nuclear plant. It also said the review of the plan's safety has been concluded and the result will be released next month. Last year, the Japanese government revealed its plan to release more than one million tons of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the sea. The plant suffered triple meltdowns in a devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit it in March 2011. There is public opposition to discharging the treated waste water into the sea.
