Day 54 of Ukraine crisis: Ukraine asks G7 for $50b to cover budget deficit
01:37

Ukraine has asked G7 nations for $50 billion in financial support to cover a war-linked budget deficit over the next six months. An economic adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the country is also considering issuing zero-percent coupon bonds.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said London will continue providing military aid to Kyiv. Johnson gave Zelenskyy the reassurance during a phone call on Saturday. He updated Zelenskyy on new UK sanctions against Russia that came into force last week. The EU will sanction Russian banks, particularly Sberbank. It is seeking what's described as "clever mechanisms" to include oil. Zelenskyy briefed Johnson on the situation in Mariupol.

To cope with Western sanctions, Moscow has moved to delist Russian companies' depositary receipts from foreign stock exchanges. The move signed into law by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday asks Russian companies listed abroad to withdraw from those markets within 10 days. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian deputy prime minister said Moscow and Kyiv have not reached an agreement on the evacuation of civilians in eastern Ukraine. The head of Ukraine's presidential administration said 1,449 people left the country through the corridors on Saturday, down about 1,000 from Friday. The United Nations (UN) warned many of the nearly 5 million people who have fled Ukraine will not have homes to return to. The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, said 4.8 million Ukrainians have left the country since February 24. It is up 40,200 on Friday's total.
