Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told ABC News that the country's forces in Mariupol have not surrendered and are still fighting.

"The city still has not fallen," Shmyhal told ABC's "This Week" program, adding that Ukrainian soldiers continue to control some parts of the city.

Russia on Saturday announced that the entire urban area of Mariupol City in eastern Ukraine has been fully cleared of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and foreign mercenaries.

And the Russian ultimatum for the last remaining Ukrainian forces holed up in the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol to surrender expired at 1000 GMT on Sunday.

Speaking to ABC, Shmyhal also confirmed that he will attend the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Washington this week and will seek more financial assistance for Ukraine.
