The Xar Moron River, meaning "Yellow River" in Mongolian, originates at the Hexigten Banner in the north of Chifeng City. The river is about 380 kilometers long and it has a drainage area of 32,000 square kilometers. It flows down the Xar Moron Grand Canyon and finally joins the Xiliao River together with more than 50 other large and small rivers. The Xar Moron River was listed as one of the six major rivers in China in ancient Chinese documents.
