Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Japan has become an unfriendly country to Russia and it is very difficult to talk about the continuation of negotiations on a peace treaty with Japan.

Tokyo has switched to a hard-line stance in its decades-long territorial dispute with Moscow following Russia's military operation in Ukraine, stating in its annual foreign policy report released Friday that four northern islands are "illegally occupied" by Russia.
