The growing influence of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) has brought more attention on Hainan in southern China, benefiting local residents. In the village of Shamei, for example, villagers can count on new ways to earn a living by turning their apartments into vacation rentals. As BFA grew in influence and international participation, the village has embraced improvement since 2017.
