The first case of the XE variant of Omicron in New Zealand was confirmed on Saturday.
The country's Ministry of Health said the infected person traveled from overseas to New Zealand, arriving on April 19, and was tested on April 20, and whole genome sequencing subsequently confirmed the XE variant.
