Latest updates: Russia's plans for its 'second phase', UN chief's visit to Russia, Ukraine

- Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Mykhailo Podolyak said on Friday that Kyiv will complete the talks on security guarantees with partner countries within a week.

- The Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that the situation in Mariupol has normalized. Residents can move freely through the streets without "having to hide from Ukrainian Nazi shelling," it said. The Ukrainian side hasn't commented yet. 

- Russia plans to take full control of Donbas and southern Ukraine during the second phase of its "special military operation," the deputy commander of Russia's central military district said on Friday. In a response, Ukraine has accused Moscow of "imperialism," saying Russia has acknowledged that their goal is "not victory over the mythical Nazis, but simply the occupation of eastern and southern Ukraine."

- Moldova's Foreign Ministry said it had summoned Moscow's ambassador on Friday to express "deep concern" about the Russian general's comments.

- One soldier died, and 27 other crew members went missing due to the sinking of the Russian missile cruiser Moskva last week, the Russian Defense Ministry said Friday.

- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on April 26. Guterres will fly to Ukraine and meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on April 28.

- The Pentagon announced that the U.S. will host Ukraine-focused defense talks in Germany next week.
