Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday, discussing the latest development regarding the Ukraine crisis.

According to the Turkish presidency, Erdogan expressed willingness to facilitate the talks between Russia and Ukraine, saying that Turkey is ready to give all possible assistance during the negotiation process.

Erdogan told Zelenskyy that his country viewed the guarantor issue positively in principle and said the evacuation of the wounded and civilians in Ukraine's Mariupol must be ensured.

"I stressed the need for immediate evacuation of civilians from Mariupol, including Azovstal, and the immediate exchange of blocked troops," Zelenskyy later said.

The Ukrainian president revealed he also raised issues related to his country's defense capabilities and global food security with Erdogan.
