The European Union (EU) sent a notification letter to Hungary formally activating the budget conditionality procedure after identifying issues that might be "breaching the rule of law" in Hungary, EU Commission Vice President Vera Jourova wrote on her Twitter.

She added that Hungary would have to reply to EU's concerns and propose remedial measures.
