The Chinese mainland recorded 5,659 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, with 5,646 linked to local transmissions and 13 from overseas, data from the National Health Commission showed on Friday.

A total of 10,029 new asymptomatic cases were also recorded on Thursday, and 197,213 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation.

Confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland now total 214,243, with the death toll at 4,975.

The latest tally of confirmed cases in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan region is as follows:

Hong Kong: 330,488 (59,173 recoveries, 9,287 deaths)

Macao: 82 (82 recoveries)

Taiwan: 88,446 (13,742 recoveries, 860 deaths)
