Moscow is open to cooperation with the United States on the situation in Afghanistan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a statement, adding that the U.S. must realize its financial responsibility in solving the country's problems, TASS reported on Friday.

At a security meeting on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with the permanent members of Russia's Security Council via video the issues about ensuring the country's security in the south, including in connection with the situation in Afghanistan.
