Shanghai reports 5,487 COVID-19 cases, 9,545 asymptomatic carriers

The Chinese mainland has reported more than 5,600 new local COVID-19 infections. Shanghai remains the hardest hit, with more than 5,400 new cases, the highest number in a single day since the city went under closed-off management earlier this month. Shanghai has also seen more than 9,500 asymptomatic infections and 52 new deaths.
