A group of Chinese researchers started providing meteorological support for the latest scientific expedition on Mount Qomolangma on April 30. The new comprehensive expedition, which began on April 28, is part of China's second scientific research survey on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, launched in 2017. On April 30, researchers released a radiosonde balloon, which carries monitoring instruments and can fly to an altitude of some 20,000 meters high, at their base camp. The balloon will transmit real-time weather data to the researchers at the site. Laser wind radar and other advanced equipment will also be used to conduct real-time weather monitoring. The expedition focuses on major scientific issues such as westerly wind-monsoon synergy, Asian water-tower change, ecosystems and biodiversity, and human activities in the Mount Qomolangma area.
