German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Monday that the EU will halt imports of Russian coal as of this summer and oil by the end of this year.

"We will stop the import of Russian coal this summer; we will phase out Russian oil until the end of the year and will reduce gas imports from Russia severely," he told Indian Express in an interview ahead of a meeting with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He also expressed confidence that there is a "broad agreement" between India and Germany on Russia's actions.
