Spring is arriving at Sayram Lake in Bortala, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

While some ice is beginning to thaw, other parts of the lake remain frozen.

At the foot of the Tianshan mountain range, grasslands are turning green.

At an altitude of more than 2,000 meters, Sayram Lake is the highest and largest alpine lake in Xinjiang.

The lake usually freezes in late December and melts in May.

The best time for visit is June-July.
