Chinese scientists to install weather station on world's highest peak
01:07

Chinese scientists are mounting efforts to establish a weather station on Mount Qomolangma, the world's highest peak. A group of 13 Chinese researchers departed earlier on Tuesday morning. The team is expected to arrive at a camp this afternoon for a short break before making their way up the peak by the early hours of Wednesday morning. The station will replace the one set up by British and U.S. scientists in 2019, becoming the highest altitude weather station of its kind. This will go along with the seven stations already established by China, which will provide data for monitoring the melting glaciers and mountain snow at high altitudes.
