China's Youth Day is observed on May 4 to honor the May Fourth Movement of 1919. As a defining moment in China's modern history, it ushered in Chinese patriotism and democratic endeavor.  

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, has expressed his hopes and expectations for the youth on many occasions.
