China saw a total of 160 million domestic tourist trips during the five-day May Day holiday, down 30.2 percent from last year, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Wednesday.
Tourism revenue reached 64.68 billion yuan (about $9.77 billion), down 42.9 percent from last year, according to the ministry. The May Day holiday lasted from April 30 to May 4 this year.
The Chinese mainland recorded 362 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, according to the National Health Commission. As the COVID-19 resurgence continues to rage across the country, many public places have adopted epidemic prevention and control measures, affecting and limiting the number of tourists.
