Rare brocade unearthed in Tibet tells stories of cultural exchange
00:45

A brocade from 1,400 years ago showing a rare weaving technique was unearthed in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region and tells stories of cultural exchanges in the transition from the Sui (581-618 AD) to Tang dynasties (618-907 AD). The blue-green twill-weaving warp brocade with yellow floral pattern was unearthed in 2018 at a group of tombs in Bangor County, Nagqu City, in the northern part of Tibet. It was first shown to the public at a seminar themed on the latest archaeological findings on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau held in Lhasa City in early April. The ancient silk piece was found lying on the pelvis of the tomb owner and its finding is of great research value, said Chen Zujun, a researcher at the Tibet Autonomous Region Cultural Relics Protection Institute who also participated in the excavation of the brocade.
