The residents of Syria's capital Damascus bade farewell to the holy month of Ramadan, celebrating the arrival of Eid al-Fitr, starting with the Eid prayer on May 2. Local residents gathered at a mosque to pray for their fasting to be accepted and to exchange blessings. After the prayer, people went to honor the memories of deceased relatives. Exchanging sweets and giving pocket money to children are big parts of the celebration, with family reunions and trips to parks also popular.
