He is now working on the engine nozzle, an important device for energy conversion in carrier rockets and missiles. To ensure the smooth operation of the engine, the margin of error for key parts of the nozzle is only 0.005 millimeters. "The 0.005 millimeters means one third of the diameter of a hair filament. He can make it and ensure the precision of the device. So he is known as the 'key part surgeon' in our industry," said Yang Yong, one of Yan's apprentices. The key parts made by Yan have an astonishing qualification rate of 100 percent.
