The Embassy of Russia in Germany on Saturday said a "probable attempt" to attack Russian journalists in Berlin had been prevented.

The Russian Foreign Ministry later called on the authorities in Germany and other EU and NATO member countries to take measures to protect Russian journalists and their families working or living in their territories.

A Berlin police spokesperson on the same day told Reuters that a device was found and destroyed at a residential building housing a Russian news agency in Berlin's Steglitz district, adding that criminal investigators and prosecutors were now studying how dangerous the device had been and whom it was aimed at.
