For his part, Assad thanked Iran for supporting Syria, saying Iran has remained steadfast and unwavering in its stance on regional issues, especially on Palestine, over the past four decades.

In a separate meeting with Assad, Raisi said "resistance" will be a determining factor for restoring regional order and reclaiming Palestinian rights.

Meanwhile, Assad praised Iran for supporting Syria's resistance, saying his country is ready to expand the "strategic" coordination in security, political and economic relations with Iran.

Assad left Tehran for the Syrian capital of Damascus after the meetings.

It was the second visit to Tehran of his presidency. His first visit to Tehran was in February 2019.
