Dozens of people were killed and many more are missing after armed men raided a mining encampment near the town of Mongbwalu in the Democratic Republic of Congo's eastern Ituri province on Sunday, Reuters has reported.

Local media have reported a toll of at least 35 people, but an official number hasn’t been released.

No group has yet claimed responsibility, but an official in the nearby Mongbwalu settlement said the CODECO militia had carried out the attack.
