At least 44 inmates died in Ecuador's latest prison clash, AFP reported on Tuesday, citing the public prosecutor. One hundred and eight prisoners were on the run, and 112 escaped prisoners were recaptured.

Authorities said a fight broke out between the rival Los Lobos and R7 gangs inside the Bellavista prison in Santo Domingo de los Colorados, in the center of Ecuador, some 80 kilometers from Quito.
