The Chinese People's Liberation Army and Armed Police forces conducted a joint disaster prevention and mitigation drill with the Gansu provincial government and Zhangye City government on May 11, ahead of the 14th national day for disaster prevention and relief. The drill simulated a magnitude-7.5 earthquake in the Ganzhou District of Zhangye City that resulted in collapsed buildings, trapped people and damaged infrastructure. The drill involved more than 5,000 professional and auxiliary emergency response forces, nine aircraft and hundreds of vehicles.
