01:20

Angry protesters are calling for a new government to take control in Sri Lanka, following violent clashes in the capital Colombo on Monday. Eight people have died and more than 200 were injured. This prompted Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to resign. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has called for calm. Some analysts believe Sri Lanka has a higher risk of economic recession, given currency devaluation and the debt crisis. The agriculture sector used to be a major source of income, but now it's also weakening.

For more on the Sri Lanka cirsis, CGTN spoke to Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, Executive Director of the Center for Policy Alternatives. He pointed out that the young generation doesn't want to go back to the land and work in agriculture.
