Moscow has no hostile intentions towards Finland and Sweden, but their entry into NATO will only lead to the militarization of the northern region, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, according to Russia's RIA news agency.

"If NATO moves nuclear forces and infrastructure to the borders of the Russian Federation, it will be necessary to respond to this by taking adequate precautionary measures," the diplomat was quoted as saying.

But Russia's response to the NATO entry events will not be made on emotions, he said, adding that it's too early to talk about Russia's deployment of nuclear weapons in the Baltic region.

On Friday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan also voiced opposition, saying it's not possible for NATO-member Turkey to support plans by Sweden and Finland to join the pact given that the Nordic countries were "home to many terrorist organizations."
