Why should we monitor glaciers around Mt. Qomolangma?

Research into glaciers is a key part of China's second expedition to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Scientists are climbing above 6,000 meters to collect samples and gather data. Among their priorities is better understanding the impact of human activity on the vast region, and glaciers in particular. We spoke to Professor Kang Shichang from the Chinese Academy of Sciences to find out why this expedition is so important.
