One person was killed and four others hospitalized with critical injuries following a shooting at a church in the city of Laguna Woods in the U.S. state of California, just before 1:30 p.m. local time on May 15.

The majority of the residents in this suburban Southern California community, where the attack took place, are at least 65, officials said.

Residents described the shooting scene as "a quiet neighborhood" with "zero crime."

Deputies detained a male suspect in his 60s and recovered two handguns at the scene.

The shooting came a day after an 18-year-old man shot and killed 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
