U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has spoken with his Ukrainian counterpart Oleksii Reznikov regarding the current battlefield situation and Ukraine's ongoing capability needs, according to a Pentagon statement released on Sunday.

Austin also provided an update on his call last Friday with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, in which he urged an immediate end to the conflict and emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication, the statement added.
