Sri Lanka's parliament reconvened for the first time since protests rocked the country and led to the resignation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and a new one was appointed. The new prime minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, said Sri Lanka is in a precarious economic situation and down to its last day of petrol supplies. He also warned that essential medicines are running out and power cuts may last 15 hours a day.
