EU leaders have agreed to set up a platform for the joint purchase of gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrogen, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said during a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday.

The European Union is mobilizing up to 300 billion euros ($315 billion) to quit Russian energy. About 10 billion euros will fund missing links for gas, LNG and oil infrastructure to stop shipments from Russia, she said.

The EU chief also proposed extra aid to Ukraine this year of up to nine billion euros ($9.5 billion) to help it cope with the ravages of war.
