Eight members of an "illegal armed grouping" were killed on Wednesday in an anti-terror operation in east Tajikistan, the country's interior ministry said.

A Tajik officer was also killed during the operation in the eastern region of Gorno-Badakhshan, the ministry said in a statement.

Twenty-four people were meanwhile injured, including 13 troops who received serious injuries and 11 members of the illegal group.
